Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) is a subset of depression characterized by depressive symptoms linked to seasonal changes. Generally, when we think of seasonal depression we think of winter, but I actually see a lot of summer seasonal affective disorder here in Southwest Colorado. Summer SAD is characterized by irritability, lack of motivation, low energy, guilt, and an increase in negative self-talk, and seems to be related to the repetitively hot, dry, windy days that dominate the southwestern summer.

If you’re a human being, you’ve probably experienced difficult thoughts and feelings when starting a task or a project. From an ACT lens, all human suffering—including suffering related to undertaking a task or project our mind labels as difficult—is rooted in psychological inflexibility. Self-confidence. You want to feel more confident, and worry because you don’t. You want to like yourself more and question and doubt yourself less. When you’re low on confidence life can get pretty miserable. Not liking yourself is painful and lonely, and you deserve something different.
