Self-confidence. You want to feel more confident, and worry because you don’t. You want to like yourself more and question and doubt yourself less. When you’re low on confidence life can get pretty miserable. Not liking yourself is painful and lonely, and you deserve something different. Let’s take some of the mystery out of self-confidence by breaking it down into a few of its more sneaky, hidden aspects.
What happens when you hear the word “mindfulness?” Do you roll your eyes a little bit? I get it…even as a therapist who uses a ton of mindfulness in my practice, I sometimes have a reaction to the word "mindfulness." It’s too bad that the word can get a little eye roll-y, because it’s such a crucial skill in healing and growth. So can we talk about it, even though it means I’ll have to use the word a bunch more times?
Oh, Colorado. Land of big mountains, epic snow, gnarly mountain bike trails, spicy rivers, technical crags. It’s a place where people like to get outside and go big. It’s also a place rife with a relatively unknown and often underdiagnosed condition: Colorado Comparison Disorder, or CCD. A short burst of CCD is pretty common, and generally not a big deal. What can get really real is the pervasive sense of low-self worth that comes with constantly comparing yourself to others, and the disappearance of the joy you used to find in play.
We all have thoughts. They’re the words and pictures in your head, the constant internal chatter like a talk radio station playing in the background. Thoughts are a helpful part of life...and they're also a double-edged sword. When they take over the show it makes it hard to live the kind of life you want to live and be the type of person you want to be.
